
In many business sectors, politics, social communities, and other aspects of daily life, we’re all guilty of using acronyms and abbreviations. It can be challenging for those not familiar with these terms, and it may also be uncomfortable for individuals who have to ask what they mean. The digital sector is particularly prone to overusing acronyms—perhaps even more so than other business types I’ve encountered. Actually, finance might be a very close contender.
So, here’s my ever-growing list of commonly used acronyms and abbreviations that those in digital, including myself, frequently use, and that you have seen used elsewhere on this site.

CRO – conversion rate optimisation
CTA – call to action
CTR – click-through rate
CX – customer experience
FB – Facebook
Insta – Instagram
KPI – key performance indicators
PPC – pay per click
ROI – return on investment
SEM – search engine marketing
SEO – search engine optimisation
SGE – search generative experience
Slug – the suffix of a domain URL that identifies a specific page
SMM – social media marketing
UI – user interface
UX – user experience
